The Vision Expert network continues to grow and advance the optometry profession

At Vision Expert member practices, comprehensive eye and vision examinations are carried out professionally and without unnecessary haste.

Finnish optometry is evolving rapidly, creating an increasing need for high-quality collaboration, continuous professional education, and the development of customer-centred services. The Vision Experts responds to these needs by bringing together independent optical practices under a shared vision: providing customers with the highest level of vision care expertise and personalised service.

The Vision Experts is a network of Finnish independent optical practices united by professional excellence, personalised customer care, and a genuine commitment to advancing optometric services in Finland. While each practice operates independently, they share common values, educational opportunities, and best practices—all for the benefit of their customers. This collaborative model enables members to exchange knowledge and experience while developing new services efficiently and innovatively.

The network’s newly elected Board of Directors has begun its work, bringing together broad expertise from across the optical sector. The Board is chaired by Pasi Hiukka (Brillet, Rovaniemi), with members Jaana Vaine (Ajan Näkö, Järvenpää), Laura Hakkarainen (Lappeenrannan Silmälasikeskus), Olli Lappalainen (Kello-Optiikka Lappalainen, Suomussalmi), and Pekka Palmu (Silmäoptikot Palmu, Rauma). The Board of Optokontakti Ltd., which manages the Vision Experts, aims to strengthen the network’s position within the field of optometry, enhance collaboration among member practices, and develop even more impactful services and educational programmes.

According to Chair Pasi Hiukka, the network’s greatest strength lies in the expertise and commitment of its members.

“Together, we can offer more, both to our customers and to eye care professionals. Our goal is to build a community that not only keeps pace with developments in the profession but actively shapes its future.”

Investing in education to deliver the latest expertise

Membership in the Vision Expert network provides independent optical practices with increased visibility, professional support, and access to a strong community of colleagues that helps members develop and succeed in a changing marketplace. The network places a strong emphasis on continuous professional education and staying at the forefront of industry developments, enabling member practices to offer their customers the latest knowledge and expertise. This commitment is reflected in regular educational events, joint development projects, and active knowledge sharing.

The network benefits not only businesses but also plays an important role in the daily work of optometry professionals. Vision expert member practices provide working environments where professional expertise is valued and long-term professional development is encouraged. For customers, this means receiving personalised, unhurried care with their individual needs genuinely at the centre of every consultation. For professionals, it provides the opportunity to fully utilise their expertise for the benefit of their customers without unnecessary time pressure.

The network’s member practices also serve as important learning environments for future professionals. Optometry students are offered high-quality and diverse internship placements where they can learn under the guidance of experienced practitioners. This supports the continued development of professional competence across the field and helps ensure that Finland remains recognised for its high standards of optometric expertise.

Principal partner in Oulu Optometry Forum 2026

One of the network’s most significant upcoming initiatives is the Oulu Optometry Forum 2026, where the Vision Experts will serve as the event’s principal partner. The forum brings together optometry professionals from across Finland to discuss current topics, share experiences, and explore new solutions. The network’s prominent role in the event highlights its position as both a driver of professional development and a platform for collaboration.

The theme of the Oulu Optometry Forum 2026, “When Vision Changes,” reflects the increasingly relevant challenges associated with an ageing population. The participation of the network brings an important practical perspective to these discussions by highlighting the everyday realities of independent optical practices and the genuine needs of their customers.

The Vision Experts look to the future with both ambition and realism. A changing operating environment requires continuous learning, close collaboration, and the ability to adapt. The network provides a strong platform where expertise, experience, and a shared commitment to development come together.

At the same time, the message to the profession is clear: collaboration creates strength. The network welcomes independent optical practices, optometrists, and optometry students to join in building a stronger future for vision care—together.
